SUBMISSION FOR VOGUE TALENTS COVER- COLLABORATION WITH POLIMODA AND VOGUE ITALIA

As we have grown to settle into these notoriously unprecedented times, we are met with memories of our lives prior. Nostalgia of an abundant closeness fills our heads and our phone screens as we continue to forget the feeling of communal intimacy.

Much like our innate sensibilities to touch, we as human beings have an incredible ability to adjust to our surroundings. As so, we have become acclimated with our personal proximity to the outside world. We have grown comfortable with feeling like the rest of society it is a universe away. Even if it is only outside of our front door.

This cover is an exploration on the nature of human touch. Despite using a physical model, the subject’s gaze is intentionally diverted away from the camera. In doing so, there is a removal of identity associated with the subject, keeping the focus on the yearning hands.

There is also a sense of tranquility laced into the image. Furthermore, serving as both reminiscence of what once was and can never be again, as well as patience in settling into the reality of right now and hope for what is to come for the future.

The hands separated by a thin veil allows for just enough closeness to remember the feeling of skin other than our own, while being remembered of the precautionary distance we now must take in order to achieve the promise of a better tomorrow.

For all that humans can do, and all that we cannot; we adapt.
